How to Make a Logo White: 5 Free Ways (2026)
Five ways to turn a logo white for dark backgrounds — online, in Canva, Figma, Photoshop and Photopea — plus how to put a logo on a white background instead, which is a different job.
Short answer: the fastest way to make a logo white is to upload it to a tool that fills every visible pixel with white and keeps the background transparent, such as Make Logo White. In a design tool, use a colour overlay (Photoshop and Photopea), a fill override (Figma, vector logos only) or the colour tiles (Canva, vector logos only). Always keep the transparent background — a white logo on a white box is just a white rectangle.
Looking for the opposite? If you want your logo in its normal colours on a white background — for a form, a marketplace listing or a profile picture — that is a different job. Use Logo with White Background instead.
Before you start: check the background is transparent
A white logo only works if everything around the mark is transparent. If your file is a JPG, or a PNG with a white box behind the logo, making it white turns the whole image white.
Open the file on a dark background first. If you see a box, remove it before anything else: Make Image Transparent removes a flat background colour exactly, which is what logos almost always have.
1. Online, in one click
Upload the logo to Make Logo White. Every visible pixel becomes white, including the soft anti-aliased pixels around curves, and the transparent background is kept. Download the PNG.
This is the fastest route and works the same for PNG, JPG and SVG. An SVG logo comes back as an SVG. Editing and a preview download are free; the full-resolution file needs a free account and 1 credit.
If you need white and black and a favicon, the brand-ready logo pack exports every variant in one pass.
2. In Canva
Canva can recolour a logo only if it treats the upload as a vector. Select the logo: if colour tiles appear in the toolbar, click each one and set it to white. If no tiles appear — which is what happens with a PNG — Canva has no direct recolour, and the workarounds are Duotone or a blend mode.
Then download as PNG with Transparent background ticked, which needs Canva Pro. The full walkthrough, including the free-plan workarounds, is in how to make a logo white in Canva.
3. In Figma
For a vector logo (SVG or a pasted vector), select it and change the fill to #FFFFFF in the Fill panel. Selection colors lets you change every colour at once.
For a PNG, Figma cannot recolour pixels directly. Put the image in a frame, add a white rectangle above it and set the rectangle's blend mode so the logo's shape shows through, or use a plugin. Step by step: how to make a logo white in Figma. Export as PNG and the transparency is kept.
4. In Photoshop
Open the logo, double-click its layer and add a Color Overlay layer style set to white at 100% opacity. Every visible pixel turns white and the transparency is untouched. Export with File → Export → Export As → PNG and keep Transparency on.
Details, and the alternatives with Levels and Hue/Saturation, are in how to make a logo white in Photoshop.
5. In Photopea (free)
Photopea is a free browser editor that works like Photoshop and processes the file on your own computer. The same method works: open the logo, open Layer → Layer Style → Color Overlay, choose white, and export as PNG. The free version shows ads.
Which way to choose
| Situation | Best route |
|---|---|
| You just need a white PNG now | Make Logo White |
| The logo is a vector you are already designing with | Figma or Canva colour tiles |
| You need white, black and other variants together | Brand-ready logo pack |
| You work in Photoshop already | Color Overlay |
| Free, offline-style, full control | Photopea |
| You actually want the logo on a white background | Logo with White Background |
Common problems
The logo has a grey or dark outline after turning white. The edge pixels were anti-aliased against a dark colour and kept it. A tool that recolours edge pixels together with the solid areas avoids this; in Photoshop, a Color Overlay does too.
Thin lines disappear. Very thin strokes and small text can look weak in white on a busy background. Test the white logo at the size it will be used, and consider a slightly heavier version for small sizes.
The file is still a white box. The original had a solid background. Remove it first with Make Image Transparent, then make the logo white.
Questions
How do I make a logo white for free? Make Logo White is free to edit and preview online. Photopea is free with ads. Figma's free plan works for vector logos. Canva's free plan can recolour vector logos, but a transparent PNG download needs Pro.
How do I make a black logo white? The same way: fill every visible pixel with white and keep the background transparent. A pure invert also turns black into white, but it changes every other colour too, so it is only safe on a logo that is black and nothing else.
What is the difference between a white logo and a logo on a white background? A white logo is the mark itself in white, on a transparent background, for use on dark surfaces. A logo on a white background keeps its colours and sits on a solid white area, for forms and listings that refuse transparency. For the second, use Logo with White Background.
