The classic sepia colour matrix for a warm, vintage tone.
Why use this color tool
The classic sepia matrix
We use the industry-standard sepia colour matrix, the same one photo editors apply, so highlights turn warm cream and shadows a deep brown — an authentic antique-print tone rather than a flat brown overlay.
Works on any photo
Portraits, landscapes, product shots — sepia reads as timeless on all of them. Upload and the warm wash is applied across the whole frame instantly.
One click, no sliders to fight
No layer stacks or blend modes to configure. Upload and the finished sepia photo is ready to download in seconds, straight from your browser.
How the tone is built
The sepia matrix first reads each pixel brightness, then remaps it toward a fixed warm brown ratio of red over green over blue. Because it keys off luminance, bright areas stay light and creamy while shadows deepen, which is what gives real sepia its glow.
Sepia versus grayscale and duotone
Grayscale strips colour to neutral grays. Sepia adds a single warm brown cast for a nostalgic feel. Duotone maps shadows and highlights to two colours you choose. Pick sepia for a classic vintage look with no setup, duotone for custom two-colour styling.
