What size a seal should actually be
Smaller than you think
A seal on a digital document usually wants to land around 250 to 350 pixels wide. Bigger reads as a sticker rather than an impression, and it starts hiding the text it is supposed to endorse. The default here is 300 for that reason, not the 512 the logo and icon tools use.
One number is enough
One number, the longest side, and the aspect ratio is held for you. That matters more for a seal than for a photo: a circular stamp squashed even slightly stops reading as circular, and everyone notices without knowing why. There is no way to squash one here.
Down is safe, up is not
Scaling down discards pixels and stays crisp. Scaling up invents them, and on a stamp that means the rim text turns to mush — that fine ring of lettering is the first thing to go. Always start from the largest version you have.
Transparency is carried through
A knocked-out seal stays knocked out at any size, so the resized file still drops straight onto a document without a white box behind it.
If it is going to print
Screen sizing and print sizing are different problems. For print, work back from physical size at 300 DPI — a 25 mm seal needs about 300 pixels, a 40 mm one about 470.
Picking a stamp size
Start at 300 pixels wide
It reads as a real impression on an A4 page without covering the text. Adjust from there rather than guessing.
Never upscale a seal
The rim lettering is the finest detail in the image and the first thing to break. Go back to the source.
Height zero means auto
A single longest-side number holds the ratio for you. A circular seal that is 2% off round is immediately noticeable.
