Every channel replaced with 255 − value — a true photo negative.

Why use this color tool

01

A true photographic negative

Each channel is replaced with 255 minus its value, so white becomes black, red becomes cyan, and midtones swap across the wheel — exactly what a film negative looks like.

02

Fast dark-mode source art

Inverting a black-on-white diagram is often the quickest way to get a white-on-dark version for dark-mode docs and slides.

03

Alpha stays put

Only colour is inverted; the transparency of a PNG is left exactly as it was, so the shape of your subject is preserved and drops onto any background.

04

What inversion does to each channel

Inversion is a per-channel flip: a pixel at red 40, green 200, blue 90 becomes red 215, green 55, blue 165. Light areas go dark and dark areas go light, while complementary colours trade places across the colour wheel.

05

Inverting versus a real film scan

A quick invert flips colours instantly and works for line art and diagrams. Scanned film negatives also carry an orange base mask that a plain invert cannot remove, so colour photo negatives may still need white-balance correction afterward.

How to invert the colors of an image

1

Upload your image

Drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG, or click to browse. The original shows on the left so you can compare before and after.

2

The inverted result appears automatically

Colours flip to their opposites the instant the image loads, shown on the right. There are no settings to adjust and nothing to wait for.

3

Download

Take a free preview to check the negative, or download the full-resolution PNG with one credit. Transparent areas are kept intact.

This has completely changed my workflow. I used to rebuild the same product colorways by hand every time the brand shifted — now it's one file I go back and re-edit.
