Why a seal needs room around it
The rim is the vulnerable part
Almost every seal puts its most important text right at the outer edge. Any container that crops even slightly — an avatar frame, a fixed image box, a PDF field — takes that text first. Padding moves the artwork away from the boundary so there is something expendable to lose.
More than a logo needs
The default here is 80 pixels rather than the 64 the logo tool uses, because a circular seal has no flat side to sit against. Every point on the rim is equidistant from the crop, so all of it is at risk at once.
Transparent by default
The added space is transparent, so the seal still drops onto a coloured document without a visible box. Pick a fill colour instead if you need the padding to be opaque.
The canvas grows
Padding enlarges the image rather than shrinking the seal inside it. The impression keeps its pixel dimensions exactly — nothing is resampled and nothing softens.
Squaring a round seal
A circular stamp exported tight is rarely a perfect square, which makes it sit oddly in square containers. Padding is the simplest way to give it an even margin on all four sides.
Clear space rules
Resize first, pad second
Padding then resizing scales the margin along with the seal, so you lose control of how much clear space actually survives.
Transparent unless proven otherwise
Opaque padding only works if you already know the destination colour. Transparent works everywhere.
Round marks need more
A circular seal has no flat edge to protect it, so every point on the rim is equally exposed. Be more generous than you would with a wordmark.
