Create a See-through Signature

What a translucent signature is for

01

Opacity is the alpha channel

Lowering opacity scales the alpha value of every pixel, so the result is genuinely see-through rather than a lighter shade of ink. Whatever sits behind it shows through wherever the signature overlaps.

02

Finding the level

Between 30 and 50 percent usually reads as deliberate: present enough to be seen, faint enough that the text underneath is still comfortable to read. Below 20 it disappears on a busy page, above 60 it starts competing with the content.

03

PNG is the only option

JPG has no alpha channel, so a translucent signature saved as JPG loses its transparency and gains a solid white background. The result here is always PNG for that reason.

04

A mark, not a security feature

A faded signature signals authorship and discourages casual reuse. It is not protection: anyone determined can crop or paint it out. Treat it as a courtesy label rather than a lock.

05

Fading versus lightening

Reducing opacity lets the background through, so the same file looks right on white paper and on a coloured template. Picking a lighter grey instead bakes the result in and looks wrong the moment the background changes.

How to create a see-through signature

1

Upload your signature

Drop in a signature, ideally one that is already transparent so only the ink fades.

2

Set the opacity

Drag the slider down. The checkerboard behind the result shows exactly how much is showing through.

3

Where a faded signature works

Draft documents

Mark a draft as yours without obscuring the text being reviewed.

Approval watermarks

Lay a faint signature across a page to show it has been signed off.

Proofs and previews

Send a client a readable proof that is visibly marked and not final.

Layered templates

Build letterheads where the signature sits under the text rather than over it.

What people use it for

The jobs the editor was built around — and what it does differently on each one.

Colourways you can revisit

Every edit is a layer, not a bake. When the brand shifts, reopen the file and change the colour rather than rebuilding the variant from the original.

Cutouts with awkward edges

AI background removal that keeps hair, foliage and soft shadows instead of stamping a hard outline around them. The output is a transparent PNG, ready to place.

No export, edit, re-import loop

The Framer plugin runs on the canvas you are already working in, so a recolour or a cutout does not mean a round trip through a second application.

Ten options in the time one used to take

Recolour once and step through the alternatives, so a client review can look at the whole range instead of the one version there was time to make.

Brand colours matched exactly

Pick a colour straight off an existing asset and get the hex, rather than eyeballing it against a screenshot and hoping it is close enough.

Free to preview, priced per export

Previewing is unlimited and costs nothing. A credit is spent only when you download a full-resolution file, so exploring an idea is never the expensive part.
