Trimming the margin off an exported icon
One slider per edge
Each side is trimmed by a percentage of the original dimension, so you can take a margin off the left without disturbing the top. For removing an uneven export margin that is more precise than dragging a box.
Optical centring
Design tools export with the bounding box, not the visual weight. A glyph that leans right will look off-centre in a square tile even though it is mathematically centred. Trimming unequal amounts is how you correct that.
Cropping is lossless
Nothing is resampled. The pixels left are exactly the pixels you started with, so cropping costs no sharpness at all — unlike resizing.
Transparency survives
Alpha is untouched by the crop, so a transparent icon stays transparent with its edges intact.
Crop first, then resize
Trim to the glyph before setting a final pixel size. Resizing first means you scale the margin along with the icon and then have to crop into a resampled image.
