How a single colour tone is applied
One hue, all the shading
Each pixel keeps its original brightness and takes the hue you choose. Dark areas become dark versions of your colour and light areas become light ones, so the image still reads as an image rather than a flat silhouette.
Why brightness has to survive
Replacing every pixel with one flat colour would erase all the shading and leave an unreadable blob. Mapping the existing luminance onto the new hue is what keeps edges, depth and detail visible.
Single-colour brand marks
Most brand guidelines require a one-colour version of the logo for embroidery, engraving, stamping and single-ink print. This produces that variant from the full-colour original without redrawing it.
Transparency is preserved
Only visible pixels are recoloured. Transparent areas stay transparent, so a cut-out logo keeps its shape and drops onto any background.
Tone versus hue rotation
A colour tone forces the whole image onto one hue, so every original colour ends up as a shade of it. A hue shift rotates all colours together and keeps them distinct from each other. Use a tone when you want unity, and a hue shift when you want to keep the relationships.
