The postage-stamp edge, and how it is made
The scallops bite inward
Each wave is a curve cut into the image rather than a bump added outside it. That is a constraint of masking, not a style choice — a mask can only remove pixels, so an outward bulge would just be empty canvas. The result is the classic perforated postage-stamp look.
Scallops and depth
Scallops sets how many waves run along each edge; more of them reads as perforation, fewer as a hand-torn deckle edge. Depth sets how far each one cuts in, and it is capped relative to the image so the waves can never meet in the middle.
Transparent bites
The removed areas are transparent, so the edge works over any background. On a white page the effect is nearly invisible — it needs a coloured or textured backdrop to read at all.
The frame is kept
Unlike the circle and star masks, this one keeps the full rectangle and only works on the boundary. Nothing is cropped and no aspect ratio changes.
Watch the edges of your content
Anything sitting close to the border — a caption, a signature, part of a subject — is what the scallops eat first. Add padding before applying the edge if the composition runs tight.
