Shifting hue without wrecking skin tones and neutrals
A rotation, not a repaint
A hue shift moves every colour the same number of degrees around the colour wheel. Red at 0 degrees becomes yellow at +60 and cyan at +180, and every other colour travels with it. Because the relationships between colours are preserved, a photo shifted by 40 degrees still reads as a photograph. Painting a single flat colour over the image would destroy exactly that.
Shading and texture survive
Only the hue channel is rotated. Brightness and the light-to-dark structure of the image are left alone, so fabric keeps its weave, skin keeps its modelling, and a product shot keeps the highlight that tells you it is glossy. This is the difference between recolouring a photo and flattening it.
Saturation and lightness alongside
Hue on its own often overshoots. A shifted colour can land somewhere too vivid or too dark for the rest of the frame, so saturation and lightness sit on the same panel. Pull saturation down slightly after a large rotation and the result usually settles into something believable.

Getting a believable hue shift
Small shifts read as intentional
Rotations under about 30 degrees usually look like a deliberate grade. Past roughly 120 degrees the image starts to read as an effect, which is fine when that is what you want but rarely right for product photography.
Watch skin tones
Human skin occupies a narrow band of the colour wheel and the eye is unusually good at spotting when it is wrong. If your frame contains people, keep the rotation small or use Replace Color on the background instead.
Drop saturation after a big rotation
Shifted colours often land more vivid than the original because the source photo was never balanced for that part of the wheel. Pulling saturation down five or ten points afterwards usually settles the whole frame.
Rotating back is lossless enough
Hue rotation is close to reversible, so you can explore freely. But every export re-encodes the file, so work from the original rather than re-editing a downloaded copy repeatedly.
