How one colour is swapped for another
Surgical, not global
Only pixels matching the colour you name are changed. A logo with three brand colours can have one of them updated while the other two are left untouched, which is what makes this the right tool for a brand refresh.
Tolerance in Lab space
Matching happens in Lab colour space, which measures difference the way the eye perceives it rather than by raw RGB numbers. Tolerance sets how far a pixel can sit from your chosen colour and still count as a match.
Flat graphics versus photographs
Flat artwork swaps cleanly because its colours really are uniform. A photograph will not, because the same red shirt spans hundreds of values under different light. Widen the tolerance for photos and expect a patchier result.
Handling the edges
Anti-aliased edges are a blend of the shape and whatever sits behind it, so they are never the exact colour you picked. A moderate tolerance catches most of them. If a rim of the old colour survives, raise it slightly rather than running the tool twice.
Transparency is untouched
The alpha channel is not part of the match, so transparent areas stay transparent and the silhouette of a cut-out graphic is unchanged.
