What converting to PNG does and does not fix

01

What PNG actually gives you

PNG is lossless: from this point on the file can be opened, edited and saved as many times as you like without losing anything further. A JPG degrades a little on every re-save, so converting is worth doing before you start editing.

02

It does not undo the damage already done

The compression artefacts in the JPG are part of the image now. PNG preserves them perfectly rather than removing them. Anyone promising that a converter restores quality is describing something that cannot happen.

03

And it does not create transparency

A JPG has a solid background, and converting the container does not remove it. The white box is still a white box — it is just stored losslessly. To actually knock it out you need a background remover afterwards.

04

The file will get bigger

Expect the PNG to be several times the size of the JPG. That is the cost of lossless storage, and it is the right trade for a working master or a web asset with a small palette.

05

The sensible next step

Convert to PNG, then remove the white background, then keep that transparent PNG as the file you actually use. Doing it in the other order means the background removal fights the JPEG artefacts around the edges.

What each format does for a logo

PNG

Working masters, web logos, anything you will edit again

Not ideal for

Photographic imagery, where it bloats

JPG

Lossy raster

  • No transparency at all
  • Degrades on every save
  • Small files
  • Artefacts on hard edges
Best for

Systems that accept nothing else

Not ideal for

A logo you intend to keep editing

Why people convert a logo to PNG

Before you start editing

Move to PNG first so repeated saves stop compounding compression damage.

Prepping for background removal

Get a lossless file before knocking the white box out of a logo.

Web assets with flat colour

A small-palette logo often compresses better as a PNG than as a JPG.

Meeting a PNG-only upload rule

Satisfy a brand portal or app store that rejects JPEG.

What people use it for

The jobs the editor was built around — and what it does differently on each one.

Colourways you can revisit

Every edit is a layer, not a bake. When the brand shifts, reopen the file and change the colour rather than rebuilding the variant from the original.

Cutouts with awkward edges

AI background removal that keeps hair, foliage and soft shadows instead of stamping a hard outline around them. The output is a transparent PNG, ready to place.

No export, edit, re-import loop

The Framer plugin runs on the canvas you are already working in, so a recolour or a cutout does not mean a round trip through a second application.

Ten options in the time one used to take

Recolour once and step through the alternatives, so a client review can look at the whole range instead of the one version there was time to make.

Brand colours matched exactly

Pick a colour straight off an existing asset and get the hex, rather than eyeballing it against a screenshot and hoping it is close enough.

Free to preview, priced per export

Previewing is unlimited and costs nothing. A credit is spent only when you download a full-resolution file, so exploring an idea is never the expensive part.
