Why stamp colour carries meaning
Texture survives the recolour
Each pixel keeps its original brightness and takes the hue you choose, so the pooling at the edges and the gaps in the middle of the impression stay exactly as they were. Flattening it to one solid colour would make it look drawn rather than stamped.
What the colours conventionally mean
Red is the default for official seals across much of the world and reads as authority. Blue commonly marks a copy or an internal approval. Green is widely used for pass or accepted, red again for rejected. These are conventions rather than rules, but they are widely enough understood to be worth following.
Transparency is kept
If the seal is already transparent it stays transparent. Only visible ink is recoloured, so the shape of the impression is untouched.
Pick a colour that survives printing
Very light inks disappear on a photocopy and very dark ones lose the texture that makes the stamp readable. A mid-saturation colour reproduces best. If a specific corporate shade is required, paste the hex straight into the picker.
Cut out first, recolour second
Remove the paper before recolouring. If you recolour first, the white background takes the ink colour too and you end up trying to knock out a coloured background instead of a white one.
